NORFOLK SOUTHERN TO PAINT 18 LOCOMOTIVES IN PREDECESSOR SCHEMES

Norfolk Southern is honoring its predecessor railroads this year by painting 18 new locomotives in commemorative schemes that reflect the heritage of those predecessors.

The companies represented include:

• Central of Georgia Railway
• Central Railroad of New Jersey
• Conrail
• Delaware, Lackawanna & Western
• Erie Railroad
• Illinois Terminal Railroad
• Interstate Railroad
• Lehigh Valley Railroad
• New York Central Railroad
• Nickel Plate Road (New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad)
• Norfolk & Western Railway
• Norfolk Southern Railway (not to be confused with today's Norfolk Southern)
• Pennsylvania Railroad
• Reading Company
• Savannah & Atlanta Railway
• Southern Railway
• Virginian Railway
• Wabash Railroad

Each paint scheme will be modified to fit contemporary locomotives while staying as true as possible to the original designs.

Norfolk Southern employees in Altoona and Chattanooga will GE class ES44AC locomotives, and EMD class SD70ACe locomotives will be painted Progress Rail Services in Muncie, Indiana.
