Amtrak's Holiday Long-Distance Train Performance

Fifty-three percent of the trains surveyed arrived at their final destination on time...
The Bull Sheet's statistical department tracked Amtrak's long-distance train performance for the holiday season, December 20, 2014, through January 6, 2015, inclusive.
The following trains were tracked in both directions:
Overall on time arrival peformance was 53 percent.
For each individual run by the surveyed trains, the arrival time at its final destination was recorded. If the train arrived behind schedule - even by just a minute - the train was considered late, with the number of minutes late included in the grand total to achieve a performance average. Some trains shown arriving on time actually arrived ahead of schedule, but times shown in advance were zeroed out and not used to offset other trains arriving late. Since a couple of trains only operate three days a week, and one other train was canceled once in one direction, the number of trains surveyed each day varied from day to day.
The analysis concluded that 641 trains tracked during the holiday period arrived, on average, at their destination 35 minutes late. But this includes the average arrival of ALL trains, while 340 trains actually arrived on time, or ahead of time. This represented an on-time performance during the period of 53 percent. Of the 301 trains that did arrive behind schedule, their average arrival was 1 hour and 14 minutes late.
