'Bike Through History'
on the
Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail
The 2015 Bike Through History program was attended by 206 bicyclists over the eight-week season of scheduled rides beginning from different locations on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM.
The schedule included the following:
June 3 - Paper Mill Road ..
June 10 - Bentley Springs ..
June 17 - Monkton ..
June 24 - White Hall ..
July 1 - Freeland ..
July 8 - Sparks ..
July 15 - Parkton ..
July 22 - Phoenix ..
In addition, we had a Moonlight Bike Ride on July 31, attended by 24 bicyclists. It was a clear and comfortable evening. It featured a creature feature at Monkton prior to the event, and a viewing of the passage of the International Space Station from a clearing at White Hall. On the return portion of the ride, our group assembled at White Hall and sang to the moon.
Our annual picnic was held July 29 at Monkton, and it
was attended by 38 people.

('Bike Through History' is conducted by volunteer members of the NCR/Hereford Volunteers Association.. The Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail - formerly the Northern Central Railroad Trail - is located in northern Baltimore County, Maryland, and extends for nearly 20 miles from Ashland to the Pennsylvania state line.. Its route is the former right-of-way of the Northern Central branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad.. Passenger train station stops along the route included Ashland, Phoenix, Sparks, Glencoe, Corbett, Monkton, Pleasant Valley, Blue Mount, White Hall, Graystone, Parkton, Walker, Bentley Springs and Freeland.. The trail is maintained as a portion of the Gunpowder Falls State Park.. Northward into Pennsylvania, the trail is known as the York County Heritage Rail Trail, maintained by York County.)
